About Mrs. Barker
I’ve always enjoyed working with kids. I began my career working with kids who were in trouble with the law. I later decided I wanted to combine my love for children and education and begin my work in schools. I felt like I could make the greatest difference in the lives of children in a school setting.
Education: I earned my bachelors degree from the University of New Haven in Criminal Justice with concentrations in Juvenile and Years of experience: Since 2004Years working at Naugatuck Schools: 2
Family Justice and Victim Services. My master’s degree is in School Counseling from Capella University. I have also passed the National Counselor Exam, earning the credential of a National Board Certified Counselor. My Professional Counselor license is pending approval.
How many years have you been teaching?
I have been working with kids for the last fifteen years, but have been a school counselor for the past two years.
What do you love about working here?
I love working at Andrew Avenue because it is truly a “great place to be” My co-workers are always welcoming and amazing team players. The leadership is so supportive and the students make me smile everyday! Having the opportunity to be a part of the students’ academic and social emotional growth is the most rewarding feeling!
What makes your school special?
Andrew Avenue is special because we are our own family. Each and every crew member puts their hearts into loving the students and views teaching as a lifestyle not just thier job. Not only do we education the students, we also make them feel safe and happy.
What are a few of your favorite things? (think about including possible gift ideas for savvy parents ie. chocolate, coffee, cookies, but also can include cats or hiking)
I love coffee and dark chocolate. My favorite hobbies include cooking, gardening, and going camping with my family! I also love the beach!
